Kurdish artist KOVAN reflects on 1 Year in Los Angeles with Paramount Studios

Where are you flying out to after having spent a year in Los Angeles?
I'm flying straight from Los Angeles back to Kurdistan! I'm gonna be spending some time there collaborating and doing some pretty cool things! After that it's back to Aotearoa, New Zealand, to continue the hustle back home!
What is something you carry with you from home that helped you succeed in Los Angeles?
The hustle and resistance that I draw from my Kurdish roots is undeniably at the centre of a lot of my success, period. It was hard to imagine a reality where I don't succeed in LA, knowing my family and people have overcome and succeeded in much harsher settings! As well as from Aotearoa, I've brought my ability to connect with all kinds of people. Being born in such a diverse place let me learn how to navigate all types of social settings, which is massive in such a big, diverse city like LA!

What has been your position at Paramount Studios?
At Paramount, a majority of my role is assisting the engineers, setting up the sessions, and connecting with artists to make sure they have everything they need throughout their time. It's a very fulfilling role, particularly when working professionally with a lot of the artists that I've grown up listening to and inspired by!
One word to describe your time at Paramount.
Galvanizing.
